Monoprint FAQ

What is monoprint?  Monoprint is considered the most painterly method of the printmaking techniques. It is essentially a printed painting where no two are alike (mono = one).  It has characteristics of translucency, spontaneity, and a combination of printmaking, painting and drawing mediums.

Gelli Print is a type of printing made on a new and innovative product (without a press), the “Gelli” plate.  A Gelli Printing Plate looks and feels like gelatin, but is durable, reusable and stores at room temperature. It’s easy to clean and always ready for printing. Mono-printing on a Gelli plate is simple and fun.

Why only in April?
It’s just because of space.  There is a bit of set-up and room required to do monoprinting.

Who should come?
Mono-printing is perfect for Kindergarten-age through Seniors. All skill levels too!  Practice makes perfect?  Oh, who cares–it’s just FUN…and affordable! Come for an hour or two.  Plan on getting unstructured and addicted–you’re going to want to make at least two prints.

Where can I get supplies to do Gellis at home?
At Yucandu, of course!  We sell Gelli plates, acrylic plates, brayers, acrylic paint tubes, acid-free papers, Stencil Girl stencils and more.

What can I do with my Gelli Prints?
Many of them are absolutely beautiful for framing “as is”! The others are perfect for using in collages on canvases, tags, cards, ATC’s, and so much more.
