Creative time for home-schooled kids & teens
Group art lessons are a wonderful opportunity to take Yucandu's open studio experience even further.
Your group can schedule your own time and day as well as choose any of the lessons/projects listed below. Group size minimum is 6, maximum 16. Payment is due upon scheduling. $18/person.
Each 2 hour lesson includes warm-up sketch exercises and a lesson and handout on art principals and elements. Lessons/projects are available during the specified months and available while supplies last.

If you are not part of a home school group, the afternoon Workshops for Kids offer the same projects and may be a great alternative for you.

Niki Inspired Skull—If you haven’t been the see the Niki de Saint Phalle exhibit at the Missouri Botanical Garden—GO! (Niki exhibit ends Oct. 31st.) You’ll come away chomping at the bit to do this project. You’ll paint a paper maché skull and then add some bright papers and finish with our bright colorful micro-glitter. So very cool! All skulls will be exhibited at Yucandu during the 63119 Studio Tour on Nov. 1-2. See www.63119art.com for tour info.

Leather Stamping & Painting—You’re going to love this! Your parents will be asking—“Can you PLEASE show me how to do that?” We’ve got the special tools & paint and tons of leather pieces. What you learn, you’ll be able to put to use on just about anything at home—asking permission first, of course.

Paper Making/Casting—Voted as the absolute favorite Yucandu workshop! It’s SO MUCH FUN. Don’t forget to tell your parents how much you’ll be learning, not to mention the fabulous handmade paper you’ll have afterwards.

Pastels—Is it painting or drawing? We’ll let you decide after you’ve finished your still life or landscape. Choose your favorite piece to have professionally matted.

Wool Felting—The newest craze in the world of arts and crafts. You will be amazed at how easy and fun this is! You’re finished product will be a fabulous felted wall-hanging. (Think: Valentine Gift!!)

Marbling Paper—Learn the time-honored art form of marbling paper. We can already hear the “ooohs” and “aaahs” before you’ve even begin creating this colorful and versatile paper.

Book-Making—Learn something you can use and appreciate for life! No kidding—journals, scrapbooks, even special books for your homework!

Watercolor Painting—Leaving white, lifting color, using resists, portraying precipitation…these are just a few of our favorite things to teach YOU!

Plein Aire Painting—The masters did it and so can you! Simply put—you’ll be painting OUTSIDE. Learn the tricks of the trade and paint your own mini masterpiece. Wire Figure Sculpture—Build your armature from heavy duty wire and a sturdy metal base. Then let the imagination run. Add layers of “junque” jewelry and more wire—in all gages and colors. A challenging and rewarding project.

Casting Cement Leaves—You’ll never look at leaves quite the same again. You will be taking giant leaves and making them a permanent art piece in your family’s garden or home. All sculptures will be exhibited at the Art & Air Show the first weekend in June.
Note to parents: If you find a lesson they’ve already done, think of it as an opportunity for them to take their project, as well as themselves, to the next level.
All lessons, classes & workshops use artist quality materials.
